Biography

 

Georges Braque was born in 1882, in Argenteuil, France. He studied at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Le Havre (France) until 1899 where he met Raoul Dufy. By 1906, Braque’s work was no longer impressionist but Fauve in style, he set up his studio in Paris and three years later showed paintings at the Salon des Indépendants in Paris. From 1909, Pablo Picasso and Braque worked together in developing Cubism; by 1911, their styles were extremely similar mutually influenced by each other.

His fame increased in 1922 as a result of an exhibition in the Salon d’Automne in Paris. Braque then began his work on the bird theme. From 1907, and throughout his life, Braque had been interested in prints and produced engravings in the cubist style as well as other interesting styles for different lithographs treated various themes. He died on August 31, 1963, in Paris.
