BIOGRAPHY

Half-Swedish,half-Swiss, Maerta Wydler grew up in Switzerland, and attended art school in Zurich. Afterwards, she worked as a scientific illustrator, and as a teacher of painting and drawing. However a few years ago she decided to move to Nice, French Riviera and to concentrate on music and art.

Like many artists, Maerta has found much inspiration in this region; in fact, it was while looking out over the rooftops of the old town of Nice that she resolved to begin working on her long-nurtured idea of photomontage.
The old town she says is “joyfully patched together. It is an often random, but always lively of mixed crowds, smells, colours and sounds, and the buildings themselves often have the appearance of being assembled as a puzzle.”

That’s why and how she started making a series of photomontage that opened her mind for a larger space and time frame in representing the three dimension of the 360o that surround us.

Maerta’s photomontages include hundreds of photos, their shapes diverge from rectangular ones. The motif dictates the shape of the montage. The wide space joins the detail, people appear several times in a picture, in different positions and actions, and various moments of the day and even different seasons are shown side by side.
